Geology & Geologic Phenomena
Tuesday July 04, 2017

One of the fringe benefits of exploring limestone caves is the wondrous spectacle of Stalactites & Stalagmites

A stalactite is formed when desolved calcium saturated water drips from the ceiling of a cave and over long periods of time builds up and creates spikes, sort of like icicles.
A stalagmite forms from the floor up, from stalactite drippings.
