One of the fringe benefits of exploring limestone caves is the wondrous spectacle of Stalactites & Stalagmites
A stalactite is formed when desolved calcium saturated water drips from the ceiling of a cave and over long periods of time builds up and creates spikes, sort of like icicles. A stalagmite forms from the floor up, from stalactite drippings. Please feel free to contribute your comments to the Caves & Caving forum |
